World Citizens by Marco Sibona

Marco Sibona, 21, is a 3rd year BEMACC student and proud Torinese. When he’s not traveling around the world, Marco calls two places home, Turin and Serre Chevalier. Those places, he says, have visibly shaped his perspective, and so have his numerous trips. “I have always been able to look at many different realities, and often with a camera lens in between”. Read his words and find his captivating photographs below.

“I love photography. Although I don’t remember when my love for it truly began, I remember taking a ton of pictures with my brand new fifth generation iPod touch. In retrospect, that was probably a defining moment for our bond. But what has probably been the main turning point, was the arrival of an Olympus camera at home. From that moment onward, I took thousands of photos, often of the same spot and always without any true understanding of how that beautiful tool worked.

Somewhere here I have to acknowledge that I have never really devoted enough time to fully grasp the workings of photography. I never had the urge to delve into the technicalities of it, nor to extract all the untapped potential my camera still has to offer. Instead, I always stopped at the fundamentals of its functioning. I simply grabbed a camera whenever I experienced or saw something worth capturing.

I guess that’s why I love street photography as much as I do. I love how it captures all the life, the little moments happening in different corners all around us, that we are often too busy to pay a little attention to. Streets allow for all of the nuances of life, the struggles, the joy, the privilege to be seen and captured, sometimes through minute details.

Having said that, I guess it’s clear that when talking about photography, I am not one to talk about light, exposure and all of that. I talk about photographs, moments and the stories behind them.”
