Although quarantine is over in most European countries, and we have returned to our somewhat "normal" everyday lives, the impact the lockdown had on our attitude towards life and even mental health is undeniable. This online story is a Quarantine Diary composed of intimate film photographs shot by Daphne Doukidis (and her partner) during Barcelona’s lockdown, accompanied with reflections on the past 4 months, quarantining with your partner and going back to "normal".
Barcelona, Spring/Summer 2020
Scented air, sea in the blink of an eye, Barcelona.
The city’s bliss within a few square meters through our life-saving balcony; to breathe, to feel, to observe life out there.
As the world came to a halt and our taken-for-granted mobility ceased to exist, our flat embraced us with its warm sun rays in a cocoon of slow-living.
A space for peace and 2am experimentation.
A space for music, art and literature.
A space for love, care and understanding.
From culinary explorations to reading Gabriel Garcia Marquez to each other and sneaking to the rooftop to catch the sunset, our symbiosis was sweet and comforting.
And as I reflect back to these days I understand the value of partnership and care more than ever, for they are some most beautiful things in this world.
