Fuorisalone 2019, via Five Business and Arts Camera Rolls

Heavily inspired by AnOther magazine's coverage of Frieze 2018, I ,Ira, decided to recap Design Week by being intrusive as ever and asking 5 of our association members (myself included) to send me screenshots of their camera roll and answer my questions. (Yes, I am fully aware of the fact that me interviewing myself is comedic to say the least, but finding people willing to deal with my last-minute projects is hard, so bare with me).While reading this, please keep in mind that some of us hadn't had our morning coffee when answering the questions.

What was your favourite installation/exhibition you went to in this year’s Fuorisalone?
The Home Sweet Home environment created by Alessandra Roveda for Missoni.

Who was the best dressed person you saw?
Gabrielle Caunesil.

What is according to you the best place to lunch at during design week?
Definitely La Tartina in Brera.

And what is the best place to continue during the night? Did you attend any party/event that stood out?
Bagni Misteriosi.

Did you discover any cool Milanese hidden corner thanks to design week? Mind sharing it with us?
Villa Mozart in the northeast corner of the city.

If you could buy anything you’ve seen, what would it be, and where would you place it?
The whole Gucci store on Montenapoleone, all over my house!

How would you summarize this year’s Fuorisalone atmosphere?
A wonderful time to be in the best city, Milan!

What was your favourite installation/exhibition you went to in this year’s Fuorisalone?
Definitely the Brazilian exhibition at the Museo Della Permanente: incredible furniture pieces reflecting the diversity of Brazil, all in a masterfully curated sensorial experience filled with nature sounds and Bossa nova.

Who was the best dressed person you saw?
This time all eyes were on design!

What is according to you the best place to lunch at during design week?
Grabbing a beer and fries at the garden of BASE, rooftop events and all the pop-ups organised by the design districts.

And what is the best place to continue during the night? Did you attend any party/event that stood out?
Floristeria! Afrobeats and latin american vibes for the coolest spring party in town. And as always, seeing the installations at the University of Milan at night.

Did you discover any cool Milanese hidden corner thanks to design week? Mind sharing it with us?
A small gallery in Isola hosting Different Bodies, an exhibition by Kadk from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and the beautiful plants on the walls of the building on via Tortona 14.

If you could buy anything you’ve seen, what would it be, and where would you place it?
One of the glass shapes by KADK for a special corner of my dream house.

How would you summarise this year’s Fuorisalone atmosphere?
Creativity, excitement, crowd, rain.

What was your favourite installation/exhibition you went to in this year’s Fuorisalone?
My favorite installation was the one in Circolo Filologico as the pillars in it were very impressive and it was also very interactive, as it was possible to walk around and touch them. I also really like the one by Loewe as all the products they created specifically for Fuorisalone were very simple yet interesting and beautiful to look at.

Who was the best dressed person you saw?
Given it was Milan Design Week and not Milan Fashion Week, I don't think it really matters, does it?

What is according to you the best place to lunch at during design week?
I’d say Lubar if you are around Porta Venezia or oTTo if you are in Garibaldi. Both places have unique decor styles and very relaxed atmospheres.

And what is the best place to continue during the night? Did you attend any party/event that stood out?
I really enjoy the Panoramix terrace in Lambrate on Thursday. I also went to a couple of parties by Floristeria in Fabbrica del Vapore and even though it was quite far, the fun made it worth it!

Did you discover any cool Milanese hidden corner thanks to design week? Mind sharing it with us?
Yes! That’s the best thing about MDW, that you can discover new places and get to explore and get to know better the city you live in. I went for the first time to Circolo Filologico and Planetario and I also loved the installation spaces in Via Correnti.

If you could buy anything you’ve seen, what would it be, and where would you place it?
I would buy these products (see below) by Loewe and put them in my living room, on a white wooden table I own.

How would you summarize this year’s Fuorisalone atmosphere?
It was as nice as the previous years. The weather wasn’t as good as I had hoped it would be, so that might have prevent people from exploring the city. However, everywhere I went it was really crowded and busy so I think that overall it's safe to say that it was a success!

What was your favourite installation/exhibition you went to in this year’s Fuorisalone?
Unfortunately saw very little due to tight schedule, but I did enjoy Vanity Fair Social Garden.

Who was the best dressed person you saw?
Can’t single out anyone, but noticed that gemstone rings are really a thing men wore a lot.

What is according to you the best place to lunch at during design week?
Given that the weather was a bit challenging, we mostly hid at Botanical Club – it’s a pretty cool space! Also – H’Americas.

And what is the best place to continue during the night? Did you attend any party/event that stood out?
Punks Wear Prada was supposed to be the highlight of my Sunday night but it was sadly cancelled due to bad weather.

Did you discover any cool Milanese hidden corner thanks to design week? Mind sharing it with us?
Probably nothing I wasn’t aware of but I’m always glad to hang out in Tortona – I don’t think this part of Milan gets enough credit!

If you could buy anything you’ve seen, what would it be, and where would you place it?
I’d buy out the whole Gucci pavilion honestly. I’m a sucker for candles that cost more than my life.

How would you summarize this year’s Fuorisalone atmosphere?
Blossoming – I have never seen so many real flowers outside of wedding venues.

What was your favourite installation/exhibition you went to in this year’s Fuorisalone?
I only had 24hours to explore Design Week this year, so my instant reaction to that was "challenge accepted". The installation that stood out the most for me was the one by ecal. It was divided in two separate spaces with one being an an exploration of sound and the other being a study on the uses of VR in the arts. I really appreciated how interactive and engaging it was, while still being visually beautiful.

Who was the best dressed person you saw?
Ana Kraš, also known as @teget.

What is according to you the best place to lunch at during design week?
La Latteria, for sure. It's is an all-time favorite.

And what is the best place to continue during the night? Did you attend any party/event that stood out?
Bar Brasso is definitely and it-place during Fuorisalone. As far as parties go, I didn't have the chance to go to any this year but I heard that Floristeria, just as last year, didn't disappoint.

Did you discover any cool Milanese hidden corner thanks to design week? Mind sharing it with us?
Spazzio Orso (Via Dell'Orso 16), i.e the installation space of écal, would definitely be it. A beautiful building with a stunning courtyard that really enhanced the authentic Milanese vibe.

If you could buy anything you’ve seen, what would it be, and where would you place it?
A marble table I saw at the Alcova Sassetti space where blocstudios (table was by Federica Elmo) was displaying. Can't get it out of my mind.

How would you summarise this year’s Fuorisalone atmosphere?
Fun and busy. I love Milan when it's crowded, as it really feels like the city is revived - even though finding a taxi and making reservations becomes impossible.
